Thank you for visiting my site and keeping my Mama's & Margie's memory alive
When I created this website in 2007, I was a younger person who hadn't dealt with grief much until my mother in law was diagnosed with brain cancer, and not the good kind. Her journey fighting this very challenging cancer took just a little over a year until we lost her. I saw the devastation it caused our family and losing our compass. It has taken many years to even wrap your brain around how fast you can lose someone you love.
It only seems to be a tiny bit easier for the moment when I think of all the wonderful times we spent with Marg Berchtold during that last year and a half. She got to celebrate the birth of her twin grandchildren and take in the joy they brought into our lives.
After this experience, I had many healthy years with my parents until 2021 where I lost my very beloved mother Eleni Evdoxia Karakasidis, originally from an island called Ikaria, her beloved home. From Ikaria she made it to the states and met my Greek daddy on a merchant marine ship. They fell madly in love, married quickly and had three kids while creating their own successful business. My mom lead with hard work, unconditional love, delicious food and humor. Losing her has changed our lives forever, still can not believe that she is gone. Daily heartbreak comes in moments where a memory pops into my mind like all the laughs we had over having coffee together. How she would always get excited to get me a cup of coffee. Her smile lit up the room and not having her has put a sadness in my soul I have to manage. So this goes to my mama, I will love you forever and do my best to make you proud Manoula. I will never forget you.
With dealing with grief and still trying to manage our lives, raise our kids, keep our jobs, and make the best out of this experience, I wanted to find a way help people in our shoes and to share some of the support that my family and I received from all of our wonderful friends. I know how it affected our life and our journey with my sick mother in law.
